media player 11 with window vista

when i try to play a video media player on vista from a site it asks me to
save it first, the file type is
(Windows Media Audio/Video playlist (.asx)
and if i do save it and then try to play it it gives me this msg >>>Windows
Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type
or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file.

now when I play the same file from the same site on window xp there is no
problem and it plays directly without asking me to save it
my question is >>is there a setting i should do or change with vista media
player?

In Media Player, Tools menu, Options, Player tab, you may not have a check
in "Download codecs automatically."

Re: media player 11 with window vista

This is probably a file association issue. What third party players are
installed?

What's a URL that shows this problem for you?

What's a URL that shows this problem for you?

^-- This is the easiest question to answer for starters. =)

As regards third party players, I'm curious if you have installed any new
players or codecs upon this system that do not normally come with Vista.
Those can accidentally reset some key player settings.
