| | Activation for WIndows VIsta RC1 does not work. I was invited to download RC1 by Microsoft, and was sent an activation code for it. I just installed it, but when I tried to submit the activation code, it would not accept it, stating that is was wrong for the version I installed. Since my current computer has Windows XP home, I chose Vista Home Basic using activation code, YH62X-HW37X-639K8-GV22D-Y28FD, would you be able to send me an activation code that will work with this versioin of Windows Vista? |

| | Re: Activation for WIndows VIsta RC1 does not work. The keys only work with the ultimate version. you can install other versions but only activate using ultimate version. | | RE: Activation for WIndows VIsta RC1 does not work. The problem is that the product key you were given is for activating Ultimate edition, not Home Basic. They have not given any keys out for Home Basic to the CPP participants and I don't think they are planning on doing so. You need to install Ultimate edition. I believe there is a way to simply upgrade to Ultimate without going through the setup again, but I haven't tried it. If you go to "start", right click on "computer", select "properties", look under "windows edition", there is a link you can click "upgrade windows vista" to upgrade to Ultimate. Once you do that, your product key will work. -- Robert Firth http://www.winvistainfo.org "Chetyz" wrote: > I was invited to download RC1 by Microsoft, and was sent an activation code > for it. | | Re: Activation for WIndows VIsta RC1 does not work. You need to reinstall from scratch, choosing the version that your key is for. If you enter the key during install, it will automatically choose the right version for you. If you got your key legitimately, it is most likely for "Ultimate Edition". Also, since you posted you key here (a big mistake) you'd better hurry up before other people use your 10 activations. -Mike "Chetyz" <Chetyz@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:4B552661-9893-424C-9E31-8242186234B2@microsoft.com... >I was invited to download RC1 by Microsoft, and was sent an activation code > for it. | | Re: Activation for WIndows VIsta RC1 does not work. You seem to think this is Microsoft. It is not. This is just a peer to peer newsgroup where everyone is a user like you. As the others have said, you can only activate Ultimate with the key from the CPP. | | Re: Activation for WIndows VIsta RC1 does not work. NEVER post Product Keys in a public place unless you are in the habit of passing money to strangers that pass by. This also applies to an Beta you value. Your key is probably only good for Ultimate, if so, the message you got was appropriate. Since we are not Microsoft, you will not get another key by asking here. -- Jupiter Jones [MVP] http://www3.telus.net/dandemar http://www.dts-l.org "Chetyz" <Chetyz@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:4B552661-9893-424C-9E31-8242186234B2@microsoft.com... >I was invited to download RC1 by Microsoft, and was sent an activation code > for it.
