| Guest | Rollback Windows XP upgrade to Vista? Hi all, I tried to upgrade Windows XP to Vista. However, before the upgrade completed, the system could not load some of the new drivers. It stopped booting and the upgrade did not finish. From the system recovery option I tried startup repair. It was not successful. I have two questions: 1. When running startup repair I noticed it made backup of my original boot file. Can anyone tell me the location where this backup file get saved? (I am trying to use bcdedit /import to go back to my original boot screen and from there use the option OS rollback to Windows XP.) 2. Or, what would be the direct command line to rollback the OS upgrade to Windows XP? Thanks for any advice I can get! Thomas |

In addition, once you install Windows Vista RC1, you cannot roll back to the previous operating system installation—you will either have to acquire and install the final released edition of Windows Vista or reinstall a previous edition of Windows. Before installing Windows Vista RC1 on any computer, please remember to back up all your files. | Guest | RE: Rollback Windows XP upgrade to Vista? Hi, I understand once the upgrade is finished there no rolling back to Windows XP. However, that is not the problem I have! My upgrade did not get finished! It went to the point where the boot menue gives the choice to roll back the Windows XP. At that point I chosed to move on with the Vista installation. The system started to load some new drivers - and a few moments later it froze! I checked the harddrive - all my files, Windows XP files (which the system backed up during the installation.) are still there. In a next step I used "start up repair" I noticed the system made a backup of the boot file. Ok, here is where I have my question: What is the exact location where this boot file backup get saved? The idea is - since the system did not delete any Windows XP files jet - I want to restore my original boot file, which has the option to roll back to Windows XP. And well, do just that - roll roll back to XP. Hope anyone out there can help! Thanks.
