| | RE: How to remove virus from the computer? You don't say whether you are using an Anti-virus, or not! Either install Avast from link below, or use your AV to remove virus. Do a Scan in Safe mode with Anti-virus, and Spybot search & destroy. Info on entring Safe Mode below Do a scan with one application at a time! http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html Avast Anti-Virus is Vista compatible (32bit and 64bit Versions), FREE, auto-updating, and a low resources user of your computer. And, only have 1(one) Anti-Virus installed / running on your computer at any one time.. Conflicts may occur if you have more than 1(one). http://www.spybot.info/en/index.html Spybot Search & Destroy 1.6 is a very good, FREE Anti-Spyware Program. Download, install, update, and immunize your System with it. Then SCAN with it. Update it, and scan your System once a fortnight. Important re: Safe Mode If you happen to find a problem that you can’t uninstall / delete, reboot the computer, and go into Safe Mode. To get into Safe mode, tap F8 right at Power On / Startup, and use UP arrow key to get to Safe Mode from list of options, then hit ENTER. RESCAN your computer with Avast9or your AV) and Spybot S & D while in Safe Mode. -- Mick Murphy - Qld - Australia "werrockjones" wrote: Quote: > > Hi Everyone! five days before my PC got affected by virus and now it is > not working in a stable way and my whole work is dependent on the > system. | | Re: How to remove virus from the computer? Use of on-line scans Depending upon only one anti-virus program or one anti-spyware program is insufficient these days. No one program will detect everything. Some will detect an infection but not remove said infection. Conversely, some malware/virus' are detected/removed by almost all of these type of programs. You can use some, or all, of these on-line scans to supplement your resident programs when you find they are not up to the task in detecting/removing your computer infection: The links below will take you to FREE antivirus and anti malware "on-line" scans offered by the below organizations. www.eset.com/onlinescan/ www.eset.eu/online-scanner http://www.onecare.live.com/site/en-...cid=mscom_msrt http://www.microsoft.com/security/ma...e/default.mspx http://www.pandasecurity.com/homeuse...s/activescan/? www.spywareinfo.com/xscan.php www.kaspersky.com/kos/english/kavwebscan.html www.spywareguide.com/onlinescan.php www.housecall.trendmicro.com/ www.bitdefender.com/scan8/ie.html www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner http://www.ca.com/us/securityadvisor...info/scan.aspx http://www.us.mcafee.com/root/runapp...n.asp?appid=73 http://www.download.zonelabs.com/bin...cm/index4.html www.prevx.com/freescan.asp www.support.f-secure.com/enu/home/ols.shtml www.windowsecurity.com/trojanscan/ www.onlinescan.avast.com/ You may also consider using any of the below programs, or a combination thereof, to further protect and cleanse your computer: Spybot Search & Destroy: http://www.spybot.info/en/index.html Ad-Aware Free: http://www.lavasoft.com/products/ad_aware_free.php ThreatFire: http://www.threatfire.com/about/ BOClean: http://www.comodo.com/boclean/boclean.html MalwareBytes Anti Malware: http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php WinPatrol: http://www.winpatrol.com/download.html I consider a good firewall essential to safe computing. If you are behind a router that has NAT implemented you are already partially protected. In fact, you may need nothing else. But, for that extra ounce of protection (argued excessively by many) you may want to consider the below FREE products. VistaFirewallControl: http://www.sphinx-soft.com/Vista/ (NOTE: paid and free versions) This is a friendly user interface for the built-in firewall that is part of Windows Vista. It allows you to control both incoming and outgoing network communication/connections. COMODO Firewall Pro: http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.com/ (for Windows XP and Windows Vista) PC Tools Firewall Plus: http://www.pctools.com/firewall/ (designed for Windows Vista) ZoneAlarm FREE Firewall: http://www.zonealarm.com/store/conte...e_firewall.jsp Note that you may have to boot up into safe mode to totally remove many infections. After you have removed everything, protect your computer with quality antivirus and anti-malware resident programs, either free or purchased. Any help is > appreciated. by the time you've started your infected Windows and connected to the Internet via this infected code base, and start to look for scanning sites through infected DNS, you are almost certain to have the malware perfectly positioned to overrule your attempts to clean it. What happens if active malware is found? Don't expect that the on-line scanner will do anything about it. Most of them are just just marketing tools for selling you their products. David H. Lipman's Multi-AV is *better and safer*, because you don't have to be on-line to use it (it has no dependencies on using a web browser to perform its function), and it can be used in Safe Mode. Download David's MULTI_AV.EXE from the URL: http://www.pctipp.ch/ds/28400/28470/Multi_AV.exe http://www.pctipp.ch/downloads/dl/35905.asp English: http://www.raymond.cc/blog/archives/...irus-for-free/ When the menu is displayed hitting 'H' or 'h' will bring up a more comprehensive PDF help file. Additional Instructions: http://pcdid.com/Multi_AV.htm Other quality Standalone Malware Scanners are: Kaspersky® AVPTool http://avptool.virusinfo.info/en/ http://downloads5.kaspersky-labs.com/devbuilds/AVPTool/ and Dr.Web CureIt!® Utility - FREE http://www.freedrweb.com/cureit/ and Malwarebytes© Corporation - Anti-Malware http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam/program/mbam-setup.exe After the software is updated, it is suggested scanning the system in Safe Mode. How do you boot to Safe Mode? By pressing/tabbing F8 (or F5 on some keyboards) during re-boot. Alternatively: click onto Start==>Run, type "msconfig" (without quotation marks), click OK. Then click onto BOOT.INI tab and 'check' /SAFEBOOT then OK and click Restart. To go back to Normal Mode, you must access the System Configuration utility again and click the General tab then click/check the radio button 'Normal Startup'- load all device drivers and services'. A description of the Safe Mode Boot options in Windows XP http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=315222 It's safer still if you can avoid running any code from the infected system at all, and that can be done by working from Bart CDR boot. But that means having a clean system to build the Bart disk, and more to the point, a fair bit of effort and technical fiddling. Bart's Preinstalled Environment (BartPE) bootable live windows CD/DVD http://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder/ And listen what the real experts have to say about 3rd party software firewalls (PFW): On August 07, 2007, the software engineers/programmers of Sunbelt Software (the makers of Sunbelt Personal Firewall) have raised reservations about the usefulness of outbound protection provided by personal firewalls (PFW) in cases where malware has already executed and describe it as a questionable basis on which to build a *security* assessment. Furthermore, during a interview with Leo Laporte (August 16, 2007), Steve Gibson, of Gibson Research Corporation said that he has given up updating his *'Firewall Leak Test'* application because he found it essentially worthless to continue and admitted a software-based firewall (PFW) is kind of pointless to employ. And, a rational appraisal by Steve Riley concerning *security* related 3rd party software applications (August 06, 2008). [quote] In general, it's a bad idea to use third-party "replacements" for critical parts of the operating system. While I'll never claim that our software is bug-free, I feel pretty certain that some shady no-charge download that tries to replace or improve on some aspect of the security subsystem hasn't gone through any kind of testing like we do: the SDL, automated fuzz and penetration testing, and threat modeling. My advice: stay away from stuff like this. How do you know it's infected? What anti-virus software do you run? Is it up to date? What has the software done about the virus? Bear in mind that removing the virus is not always possible. A virus is not necessarily just an annoyance that causes you problems until you remove it. It often can cause permanent irrevocable damage to your system; that's why it's so important to *prevent* getting infected in the first place. In many cases, the only good solution is to reformat the drive, reinstall Windows cleanly, and reload your data from your backups (since you say "my whole work is dependent on the system," I assume you have in place a procedure of regularly backing up at least your data). Whether you need to start from scratch and reinstall cleanly, I don't know. Answer the questions in the first paragraph above first. -- Ken Blake, Microsoft MVP - Windows Desktop Experience Please Reply to the Newsgroup |
