| | XML core service 4.0 service pack 2 (KB941833) - WHAT THE!!! Hi folks, Can someone please advise which group I need to post this thread to (or even better help me out with a solution): Firstly, I note all the guidance re the KB936181 installation issue (ie it keeps requesting an install every freakin day). I've followed that guidance and now have a new beast to deal with. I'm now getting the - please install Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0 Service Pack 2 (KB941833) every time I boot up/log on. Yes - it's installed, several times, and yes I've turned off auto download, but please help me out with an easy step by step guide to resolving this issue once and for all. I followed the Microsoft fix, did the command prompt deal, go several errors like people report i.e. access denied etc and now the KB936181 doesn't pop up, but this new bloody update does. Is Microsoft going to offer a patch or update that will resolve this mess? It's a bit unrealistic to ask non tech people to play around with deleting files from the System directory and reinstalling stuff in a particular order that has taken years to accumulate in order to fix their problem. I would really appreciate an EASY guide that puts this to bed. I understand many of you will probably think - 'shut up and get an apple you loser', but I'm keen to stick with Windows for the time being. I run Vista Home Premium. | | Re: XML core service 4.0 service pack 2 (KB941833) - WHAT THE!!! Thanks - I'll give it a go. Quick one though - Are the first set of MSXML reinstalls the same as the second set with the links? The first set don't have links, but the second set do. I note that the numbers are different so should I get the KB925672 and KB927978 from the Microsoft site? -- Flyer2008 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Flyer2008's Profile: http://winvistaclub.com/forum/member.php?userid=296 View this thread: http://winvistaclub.com/forum/showthread.php?t=18741 |

| | Re: XML core service 4.0 service pack 2 (KB941833) - WHAT THE!!! Well you certainly gave me plenty to read about! The link http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...629c/msxml.msi will download the original version of MSXML 4.0 SP2. The way I read the articles, KB925672 (MS06-061) and KB927978 (MS06-071) are updates which will appear listed at WU if they apply to your system. They are each a TOTAL replacement for the previous. In other words, MS06-061 totally replaces the original listed above, and MS06-071 replaces either the original or MS06-061. From reading KB936181 (MS07-042), it would appear, again, that it is a total replacement for all earlier versions, AND it specifically states Vista as being supported. Then there's KB941833, which like the others entirely replaces previous versions listed above, but does NOT include a clean-up procedure, which is where I'm guessing you ran into trouble in the first place. Thus I would make the leap and install it directly after using the Cleanup utility. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...4-66380A5CC117 -- Gary S. | | Re: XML core service 4.0 service pack 2 (KB941833) - WHAT THE!!! Check this for great support - I called Microsoft last night, they remoted in to my PC and fixed the issue in 2 minutes. They loaded up a simple program that remains on my desktop - some bat file they ran from notepad. I had no idea they offered that type of support totally FREE. PROBLEM SOLVED :-). | | Re: XML core service 4.0 service pack 2 (KB941833) - WHAT THE!!! Sure thing - Away from the laptop for a day or two, but when I get on I'll post the contents of the .Bat file. I'd also be happy to attach it to an email if that helps. It was amazing that I got a fix on all the XML reinstall issues in just a couple of minutes with no hassle. They knew the exact issue and were ready to fix it with a click. Way easier than trying to navigate all the other options and suggestions (although totally appreciated) ;-) Cheers -- Flyer2008 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Flyer2008's Profile: http://winvistaclub.com/forum/member.php?userid=296 View this thread: http://winvistaclub.com/forum/showthread.php?t=18741 |
