Vista Prof: Windows Explorer views: how to get the view I want everytime?

Hi guys, how can I set things up for all time so that I always open
Explorer and see my files organised thus:

Detail View
Name
Size
Date Modified
Type

I NEVER want to see tags, ratings or date taken yet these are the
categories that always appear whatever directory I open and no matter
how many times I get things looking right.

Thanks in advance,
Jo

Hi, Brink, thanks for replying. I am running Vista Business 32 - what
sort of chaos will ensue if I run this 64 version download?

I have never been able to figure out how to restore a computer restore
point. The option that looked to me like it would work as in old XP
version gave me a warning to say it would reformat my computer, so I
don't want to start anything I can't reverse.

Cheers,
Jo

Jo,

It is for either the 32 bit Vista or 64 bit Vista, and will work without causing any problems.

You can create a restore point and then use is later if you do not like the effects of the download to reset the folder view settings. These two tutorials will help you out with System Restore if needed.

System Restore Point - create

and

System Restore - How to

Hope this helps,

Re: Vista Prof: Windows Explorer views: how to get the view I wanteverytime?

Hi again, Shawn. Unfortunately I haven't had success from this method.
In fact, I've lost functionality in my Corel Draw import function and
in Acrobat my Open function has reduced visibility.

hrough another application, Filebox Manager, I am able to sort my
Explorer by Detail View, I cannot open/import/save to the Detail View.

I don't expect you to solve this problem but simply wanted to give you
an update of where I am at, since you were kind enough to offer
advice.

Cheers,
Jo

Jo,

Strange. Did you do Method Two in this tutorial to reset the Folder View settings?

Windows Explorer Folder View settings

You should be able to set each individual open/import/save window to the Detail View, then close the window. The next time you open that same window, it should open with Detail. The bad news is that you will have to repeat this for every new window for each program.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

There is no reliable way to do this with Vista explorer. Some people
have had success with some tutorials - but explorer has so many deep
seated issues that the only option you really have is to aquire a
third party file manager.

Hmm. Are you able to recommend such a third party app?

Try Powerdesk. It's what Explorer should be.
