If I loose my hard drive, will I be able to use an acronis copy
of it stored in an external hard drive to load a replacemment
drive in my computer?

thanks, anne

Re: acronis

It is very complicated to restore to a new disk from an Acronis image as the image contains all the parameters of the original disk including your Microsoft product key that binds the imaged disk's serial number to the image. It is possible if you are restoring the image to a disk with the exact same parameters as the old one make sure your external drive is connected when you boot from your Vista dvd otherwise the drivers won't be loaded and your image will not be available then you need to contact Microsoft by phone in order for them to provide you with a product key for activation on grounds of your explanation.

Yeah...sure. That's what Acronis True Image is designed to do, no?
You may have to upgrade to TI 11 if you haven't made an image of Vista yet.
I know that TI 9 (and below) won't work.

Thanks for the warning. I'm going to reconsider the whole business.

Um---it's "grammar," not "grammer" :-)

And it's a whole lot easier to "restore" a new disk from an image than a new
motherboard (don't ask how I know this).

I'm not sure what you are talking about, as I have never had a problem doing
this. The Home version of True Image even comes with Migrate Easy.

I've had no problems replacing drives from Vista or XP with a drive
very much different than those being replaced. It boots up like
nothing had ever happened.

better watch your **** mouth

I misunderstood the users post thinking that he/she was referring to move a complete installation where say for instance its an i386 image completely migrating to new hardware of ie: AMD type if it's not the same motherboard he/she would have to add ie: the relevant host serial ata controller to the image for a start, the chipset drivers etc.

I now only realized that the user only wants to replace an hard drive back to the existing system where he/she can simply make use of migrate easy.
