Vista - Power Saving Options - LCD Monitor

I recently installed Vista RC1 on my computer.

I did have XP Media Edition.

My problem is I tell Vista to turn off my monitor after 30 minutes when
plugged in. However, after 30 minutes, my monitor goes dark but it isn't
turned off or put in standby. There is still some light coming from the
monitor and the power LED is green.

XP would act as I expected. It would actually power the monitor off so there
was nothing coming from the display. The power LED would change from green
to yellow.

How do I make this happen in Vista?

Monitor is a NEC MultiSync LCD1770GX.

If your running a ATi video card you cant. Seems to be some problems with
drivers and who knows when that will get fixed.

Hmmm...

I had the same problem, but strictly in XP, after upgrading to a new
motherboard with built-in graphics. I made sure to upgrade the BIOS to the
latest version, and download the latest driver (it was an SIS chipset), all
to no avail -- had the exact same issue as you.

Later, I upgraded the video by adding an add-in board, and the problem
vanished. Up until now, I thought it was a defect in the motherboard's
on-board video circuitry. Given your problem, I'm thinking it may be a
driver glitch (i.i. a programming error).

That must be it. I am running an ATI card. This will get sorted out.

Um, no, not an ATi problem that I'm aware of.

I have a problem with the system not turning off my monitor when using a
screen saver (doesn't go dark, simply doesn't turn off). I'm using an ATi
card and if I disable the screen saver the monitor turns off just as it
should. Tested this on 3 different systems.

Make sure your monitor isn't listed as "Generic PnP Monitor" in Device
Manager. I've run into problems with black screens/still on monitors when
trying to get all flavors of Windows to shut down a monitor and 99% of the
time this is the case.
