| Vista Ultimate 32bit | Re: How can I recreate personal folders ? Hey Shawn, I'm new to Vista. I also had some major issues with the personal folders. By default they are on C:\ drive, and i wanted to move the essentials like music, videos, pictures, downloads, documents, contacts etc to my E:\ which is used for storage. Now when i first moved the downloads, the icon screwed up, So i thought I'd restore default and then for some reason my downloads folder became my documents folder. I had similar problems with every other folder and now I have lost my video folder, I have lost my downloads, and now have 2 documents folders which are (indestructable and linked together at the same time) 2 picture folders with the same problem, and the rest are fine but had trouble listening to me as well. I read your article about trying shell:command and also opening the regedit. Still no luck. Please help, I'm snagged. Joronamo. |

| Vista x64 Ultimate SP2, Windows 7 Ultimate x64 | Re: How can I recreate personal folders ? Hello Joronamo, For your Documents folder, it sounds like you have a program that places a folder inside of the original location causing you to have two now instead. For your Downloads folder, it sounds like you may have set something wrong or dragged it into another folder by mistake. I would recommend using Option Two in this tutorial below to restore all of your user folders back to their default locations. After finishing the tutorial, delete any extra folders left. | | Re: How can I recreate personal folders ? There's a much slicker way of moving personal folders to your E:\. Create a set of blank folders under E:\UserName and then redirect storage location, using the "Location" tab in the Properties of each Personal folder. This way the Personal folders look like they're in the same place on C:\Users\ UserName but in actuality they are stored on E:\User Name. You don't disturb the structure of the user profiles, while achieving the goal of saving Personal folder data on your Data drive rather than System drive. LOL oops, Warren, I'm happy to hear that you have sorted it out and got them back without having to do to much work with it. Shawn Excellent reference article Shawn. | Vista Ultimate 32bit | Re: How can I recreate personal folders ? Hello Brink, I tried Option 2 for the 20th time and still no luck. However I did some investigating. Turns out when enter shell:downloads in the search bar, it opens up my documents folder which contains my recieved files and sharing folder for wlm. When i search shell:documents no results are found and likewise with videos. So turns out my Downloads turned into my documents, and my documents and videos are missing altogether. Please help, Joronamo. |

| Vista x64 Ultimate SP2, Windows 7 Ultimate x64 | Re: How can I recreate personal folders ? Hi Joronamo, In addition to making sure that the User folders are set with the default locations in Option Two in this tutorial (Personal User Folder - Restore Missing Folder), check to make sure that they have the default full path from here as well. Personal User Folder - Restore Missing Folder If they still will not open properly afterwards, then you can create a new administrator account to see if they work in it. If they do, then you can just delete the old account from within the new one. Hope this helps, Shawn |
