Logon Sound

Has anybody figured out how to silence the "logon" sound? It was discussed
about two weeks and no solutions posted. Somebody, I hope, has figured it
out since...........................................not the biggest issue
facing the free world, but annoying just the same.

Re: Logon Sound

It is hardcoded in and cannot be disabled.

Irritating, isn't it?

Re: Logon Sound

It past ''irritating'' about 3 weeks ago.
I like Vista - a lot.
I hate the damn sound - a lot.
I'll show them - I am never going to re-boot my machine

Re: Logon Sound

I guess they are trying to be trendy like Apple and have a startup sound in
hardware. I'm sure someone will find a way to eliminate it eventually
though. Has anyone tried just deleting the wav file itself or does system
file protection prevent you from doing so?

Re: Logon Sound

I couldn't delete it, and about 3 others - I tried - Lord knows I tried
(((
since it is ''hardcoded in'' (whatever that is) I guess it needs to be
''hardcoded out" (whatever that is)

Re: Logon Sound

Just turn the volume down on your speakers. How hard can that be?

Re: Logon Sound

well...are you trying to delete the file or just turn it off????if you goto
the sound icon on the system tray , aight click it, and then goto sounds,
find the sound option. then scroll to the windows logon thing and click on
where it says 'Windows Logon Sound.wav' and scroll to '(None)' then click
apply and ok.

Re: Logon Sound

The sound can be disabled.

To disable the sound follow these steps.

1.Download PE Explorer from http://www.pe-explorer.com
2. Open PE Explorer and open %windir%\system32\authui.dll
3. Then go to View -> Resources
4. Then Highlight WAVE and Press Delete
5. Save the file and then click yes if you want it to update the Image Size
