| | USB Devices and hubs Hi, I had a set of USB devices working OK on my laptop (mouse, printer, scanner, labeller, disk) and decided to route all through a hub to make things simpler to cabling and moving my laptop around. I installed the hub and recabled everything and all worked fine for a couple of days. Now, nothing works through the hub. The devices are recognized alright (I get the bong sound when I plug and unplug and the printer status comes OK) but I cannot scan and I cannot print. The mouse works fine, though. Has anyone run into this before? Thanks! W |

If I unplug or plug while the PC is on, they act like they were never on the machine before. Several times have had to completely un install and re install to get them to work again. I tried lots of idea's, nothing ever worked. I found sometimes if I made sure the PC was off, and then did it, it would work, even that did not always work. PITA. I finally just left the printer scanner on the desktop. If I want to print something I use a jump drive. -- Always do sober what you said you'd do drunk. | | Re: USB Devices and hubs No, my HP scanner is acting funny too, now. If I try to scan my starting the HP Solution Center application it claims it cannot talk to the scanner. If I try to scan by pressing the front-panel button it scans but at an unreasonable high resolution. For some reason I now see several scanner devices. I solved the printer problem by removing the printer and letting Vista re-install the drivers. | | Re: USB Devices and hubs You will have to get a USB hub with it'e own power access point. By the sound of things, you have everything plugged into the hub, and using the laptop's power supply, which is insufficient. -- Mick Murphy - Qld - Australia "wiserandwiser@xxxxxx" wrote: Quote: > No, my HP scanner is acting funny too, now. | | Re: USB Devices and hubs Hi Mick, thanks for the response. In fact, I have the USB hub powered separately. That was the first thing I thought of. | | Re: USB Devices and hubs This can, and will, happen with USB devices. Unless you keep plugging the printer into the same port, it will be detected as a "new" printer at a different USB port. Windows XP did the same thing. The only good news is that once you've plugged it into every available port it will no longer show up as "new". -- Richard G.
