marking mail read/unread

My new Vista email marked messages as "read" for a few days. Suddenly that
is no longer happening. I have (several times) gotten into: Tools, Options,
Read, and clicked on: Mark as Read, and Okay. What am I doing wrong? Thanks
so much

Is that option changing to unchecked, the one that says Mark as Read after
so many seconds? If not, you should uncheck it, Apply, then check it again
and OK your way out. You might also change the number of seconds before
marking Read to something else, just to see if that fixes it. If so, then
you can try putting it back.

If that checkbox is getting unchecked by itself, then you need real experts:
