| | Re: How do I install a user specific program? In general, you don't. Unless the program/installer offers the choice of installing for all users or the current user only, that action is decided for you by the installer and you cannot alter it. -- Richard G. | Windows 7 RC x64 Vista HP x86 | Re: How do I install a user specific program? assuming that you wish to limit use of the program to one of a number of standard users and you are the administrator Move the start menu program from the all users area at C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\.. to the user area C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs ... then to ensure security, if this an issue, set the security properties, on the shortcut and the target .EXE so that "everyone" has no rights, Administrators have full rights, and the required user has the rights required to run. a little involved but should work have used this in multiuser PC in the past |

Once you get it install, then you go to the folder and to the exe file in the folder using Explore with the Admin account and you right click-it Properties and to the Security tab. You add the user, by using the Edit button. Once you enter the user's id, then you use the checkname button to verify the user. Then you set the permissions for the user. Then you make sure by using an none admin account of another user to verify permissions. If you don't see the Security Tab, then follow the information in the link that talks about it. <http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-US/Help/2464a180-e5dc-45d1-a2b8-3c8a2b571e9d1033.mspx> |
