DirectX 10

Quick noob question:
Does Vista DirectX 10 improve DVD or Bluray image quality on an LCD display?

My guess is DirectX 10 only affects games. I'm just curious if it makes a
difference during a (DVD or high def) video playback. As you can tell I've
never used Windows Vista. Do I also need a DirectX 10 capable PCI Express
graphics card or any legacy AGP graphics card will work just fine?

DirectX is best known for its gaming features, but it actually powers and
does a lot more than just games. Nonetheless, the answer to the specific
question regarding DirectX and Blu-Ray playback is "Nope, no improvement"
since Blu-Ray playback is not implemented in Vista but in hardware/software
by your playback system.

Notwithstanding the above, you will want a DirectX 10 card with Vista. Not
only will some features of Vista not work without it, but anything older and
slower will impact Vista performance.

I would be interested to know what parts of Vista won't function without
DX 10. I've been running Vista for quite some time without any problems
and I know my graphics card doesn't support DX10.

Thanks to all of you for your reply. Gls858, may I ask what graphics card
you're using?

I'm wondering if a (motherboard) integrated graphics chipset (for example:
integrated Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 3100) is good enough. I don't do
PC games at all so I suppose Vista runs just fine with an integrated card.

Nothing special. My PC still has a AGP slot. I think it a Nvidia
7600GS/256 ram. I think when I bought it it was around $100.

My guess is the Integrated graphics won't run Aero or the other fancy
crap like Dreamscene but if you don't care about those it would probably
work. You can always add a card later if you want better graphics
performance.
