Hi,
What is the minimal amount of drive space required before performance and
speed of the computer are effected or the computer stops working?

I also heard that the computer needs a minimum of %15 of drive space
available to do a proper defrag. Is this true?

Vista requires a minimum of 15GB. As you install more programs, the number
increases.

Some available space is needed by the defragmenter in order to shuffle data
around, but how much can vary a bit. Among other things, it depends on how
much of the data can be moved at all. In my experience, somewhere between
10% and 20% is a fair estimate.
