| | Windows Mobile Device Center - I Have The Solution I have too have been having problems with WMDC. Re-establishing the download, installing the download, and getting it to work. I have found a solution which worked for myself. (1)- Go to Control Panel - Programs and Uninstall WMDC. (2)- Go to C:\Windows\Windows Mobile- Uninstall everything you can manually. The "en" folder will not uninstall. Leave it. (3)- Got to Administrative Tools\Services and scroll down to Remote Call Procedure. There are two entries Remote Call Procedure and Remote Call Procedure Locator. (4)- Restart Remote Call Procedure in Automatic. This already is set at Automatic by default. (5)- Remote Call Procedure is set at Manual by default. Start this service and change to Automatic. (6)- Disable Windows Firewall, Windows Defender, and the your Antivirus. (7)- Shutdown the computer. Do not restart. (8)- Reboot, and check that all is as directed in the steps above. (9)- Go to Windows Update, and you will find that the WMDC has re-appeared as an Optional Update. Download it and let it install by its natural path. It still takes a small period of time, but it does not hang like it did before. (10)-Click on the green WMDC Icon. It should start the first time. NOTE: This has worked for me on Windows Vista Beta 2 (Build 5384). I upgraded to RC1, but after the upgrade, RC1 stole all my drivers that were working with B2 even though the Upgrade Analyzer Program stated that I was suited for the upgrade with the drivers I had installed. The drivers that were available in RC1 Windows Update were wrong for my Screen Resolution (ATI Radeon), Sound Card(Realtek), Wireless (Atheros), Graphics Card(ATI Radeon). I`went back to Beta 2 to at least enjoy Vista while I can. (11)- RE-ENABLE the Windows Firewall, Windows Defender, and your Antivirus ONLY AFTER you put Windows Mobile Device Center in the Exceptions or Ports List for all your protective programs AND have finished the sync. In summary, the Remote Call Procedure Locator and the Remote Call Procedure services were key, at least in my case, to getting the WMDC to download, install, and bring up the Sync Options Screen. Good luck in your efforts. -- Thank you very much for your interest if you reply. Ed Krievins (A Student regarding this particular thread) |

| | RE: Windows Mobile Device Center - I Have The Solution Hey Ed, I followed step 1 to 8, but on step 9 I don't find this optional update: "There are no updates available". So, what is the next step? With the Beta2, the WMDC was just working for the notes, the contacts and organiser could not be synchronized. Now, with RC1, WMDC is not working at all. I hope a patch will soon be available. Regards, Christophe "Ed Krievins" wrote: > I have too have been having problems with WMDC. | | RE: Windows Mobile Device Center - I Have The Solution Christophe, I am asorry if I confused you with the word " Optional". I just should have stated that the download should re-appear again after you uninstall everything you can before Vista's permissions grind you to a halt. By Optional i mean't as to how WMDC originally appeared in Windows Update. It appears as an Optional Update and not a Critical Update. I hope this unconfuses you so to speak. How did steps 1-8 go? By the way, the WMDC does not re-appear straight away in Windows Updates. It usually re-appears after a few hours and up to the next day. It depens on how fast the server reads the need for it, and how much you were able to uninstall. Best Regards -- Thank you very much for your interest if you reply.
