| Vista x64 Ultimate | Thumbnails unnecessarily regenerating in Vista... This is now getting annoying, and I'd like to see if there is a real fix for it. I've read around on these and other forums. Some users who spoke up about this got half-hearted answers or useless hacks to workaround it that don't really address the problem. The problem is that Vista REGENERATES a thumbnail for EVERY SINGLE file when you open the containing folder. If I have a picture folder file that has 1000 pictures in it, this gets annoying real fast. Every time I close the folder and reopen it, Vista REGENERATES thumbnails again. I've read that Vista does not keep a thumbs.db like XP does, and has another central location in which it keeps thumbnails for files. Ok, fine. But then why doesn't Vista keep thumbnail views cached properly like XP does? Why do I have to wait 5 minutes for thumbnails to REGENERATE thumbnails when it supposedly has already done this? ![]() I've read some of the supposed "workarounds". 1. Clear your thumbnail cache. This doesn't do anything for the problem. Vista STILL regenerates thumbnails for each time I open a folder. 2. Check that Vista is set to use thumbnails instead of just icons Yes, it is. Checked and verified in Folder Options 3. Set Vista to use icons instead of thumbnails (the most annoying suggestion by far) I find it blasphemous that this is being suggested. It's basically running away from the problem. Why should I disable it? It worked fine in the previous OS?! If I am wrong, please correct me. I'm just annoyed about the suggestions I've seen so far for others who have been experiencing this problem. Any suggestions and feedback are welcome. Thanks. |

If I open a folder with a lot of multimedia files (picture, videos), I instantly see the thumbnails. I think you have corrupted your Vista or you installed bad codec. |

I should mention that lots of others see this problem as well, so I'm not just making stuff up here. |
