Speech Recognition error message

Vista speech recognition was working fine. No problems using it in Office
2007 apps. until very recently. When I try to start Speech Rec. I get the
following msg:

"Speech recognition could not start because the language configuration is
not supported. The recognizer language must match the language of the user
interface. Please change the recognizer language in the Speech Recognization
Cntrl Pnl under Adv Options."

The recognition tab, language section shows: MS Speech Recognizer 8.0 for
Windows(English-US). There is nothing showing in the Profie section. When I
click New, I get the following msg:

"The requested task cannot be carried out because the necessary engine could
not be created. Please select a different engine and/or a different audio
device".

Is there anything I can do short of reinstalling Vista Ultimate?

Wow, talk about confusing error messages. When Vista
goes haywire on me, I also get messages that have little
or nothing to do with the real problem.

I don't think so, but maybe others can suggest something.

In my case, I am a Mac user who runs speech recognition
from a Vista Ultimate partition of my Mac.
(Dragon full medical version, $1,200)

When I screw up Vista accidentally, I reload the entire
Vista partition from scratch, from a backup file.

It takes a full hour to do that, but invariably the
speech app' works okay, until the next time I do
something to screw it up.

Hopefully, someone can recommend a robust backup util'
for you to use on Vista, to take most of the pain out of
reloading Vista.
