I can't install Vista 64.

I just built a new pc with the following parts.

-------------------------
Intel e8400 Cpu
Asus p5q pro Mobo
Ati 4850 GPU
Corsair 620HX Psu
4GB Geil 6400 (Only 2GB installed as I was told it would blue screen to fresh install with 4GB on 64Bit)
Samsung F1 320GB HD SATA2
--------------------------

It boots. Flashes a message "Hard drive not recognized!" But the HD is there in BIOS.
I then boot Vista 64 Bit, it shows the "Windows is loading" segment, then the green loading bar. After this it displays a Blue/Green Vista background that is blank, the PC then stops seeking and it Hangs here until I have to reboot.

I have tried the following:

*Changed sata cables
*Changed the ram
*Set DRAM Voltage to 2.10 Volts

None has worked so far. What do you guys suggest? Is the HD not being recognised? are there issues with 64BIT and recognising HD's? I don't know.

Re: I can't install Vista 64.

Don't you have SATA drivers for the hard-drive? You must 'feed' the SATA
drivers when Vista installs. The Asus mobo CD should have the drivers.
Step by step: http://vistasupport.mvps.org/install...ta_drivers.htm
or search the web... too long to type in here.

Re: I can't install Vista 64.

That doesn't work because it doesn't allow me to get past the green/blue vista themed blank screen, it just Hangs permanently after the green loading bar.

Re: I can't install Vista 64.

Just a few common problems ->

The "permanent" hang might need some time... hours as some claim.
Check your BIOS for 64-bit settings - see more:
http://www.intel.com/cd/channel/rese...eng/203142.htm
Use only 2 GB RAM... or try with only 1 stick -
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929777/en-us
Unplug anything you do not need for install - USB devices, printer, webcam,
sound card etc.
SATA drive should be plugged in the 1st SATA port - see mobo blueprint.
Try to install Vista 32-bit to see if it's a 64-bit driver issue; some HDD
controllers default to 32-bit DMA.
Run a boot disk - such as http://www.allbootdisks.com/ - or make a WinPE or
BartPE disk to see what's on HDD and install from it.
Well, that'll keep you busy for a while... post back.

Re: I can't install Vista 64.

Update: after waiting 10-15 minutes for it to load the installation it finally did. I installed vista 64. The problems im having now are to do with the Asus xonar DX sound card and it pausing, and echoing and also missing sounds within games, and applications.

Re: I can't install Vista 64.

As this is a SATA drive Vista may not have the appropriate drivers in which
case you will need to install the SATA driver during the install of the
operating system. See this link from my website:

Re: I can't install Vista 64.

Did you run RMAA - on Asus install CD?
Also, try Asus forums -
http://vip.asus.com/forum/topic.aspx...Language=en-us - or Asus
troubleshoot webpages.

Re: I can't install Vista 64.

Hi everyone,

I seem to have the same issue but a bit worst! When i try to run setup, it goes to the first graphical screen (with the mouse and the vista blue/green background), and at the first attempt to write to the Hardrive, the system hangs up.....and reboots within a few seconds of that!

My setup consists of:
e8400
Asus P5Q pro (with latest Bios)
4 x 1GB crucial ballistix PC2-6400
2 x 250 SATA WD2500AAKS

so far, here is what I've tried:

a) Removed 2 x 1 GB sticks (from DIMM2 and DIMM4 slots).
b) Forced Bios Timings to memory 4-4-4-12 (as oem says) and 2.0 Vdimm
c) tried a different install disk of Vista x64, and even 32-bit versions
d) removed all drives except one, and tried each one, one by one.

in all 3 cases, it did the same thing.....it hangs up several seconds into the 1st graphical screen (after loading files and the windows scroll bar is finished). Again, it seems like there is an attempt to write to the HD (I see the HD flash for a split sec) and then it hangs!

To try to see if it was a Hardware issue, I tried installing Windows XP Pro, and it installed fine ..........i had to format the drives, but it installed fine.

next, I tried to install vista again, and it still hangs up!

I'm out of ideas at this point. i've been at this for almost a week without success. I'm thinking of trying another motherboard (Gigabyte, etc), but I know this mobo can install x64 vista.
