Immediate install failure

Installing RC1 all goes well until one hits the "next" button after entering
the product key. The computer stays in the gathering info mode an goes no
further. The only way to escape is to cut power to the computer. The same
thing happens when all USB periphials are unplugged. Suggestions?

Re: Immediate install failure

How long did you let it run? What are you seeing that indicates nothing is
happening?

How long did you wait? There were times during various installs
of Vista, that it looked like nothing was happening. A couple of
times I almost stopped the install myself. The disk light wasn't
doing anything, no moving of the progress bar for what seemed
like a long time. But, the installs would eventually finish. I've done
several installs of Vista- I have had only one fail.

Re: Immediate install failure

I let it go for at least a half an hour. There is a progression bar at the
bottom. I aligned my mouse pointer with it to detect progression movement.
When I returned 30 - 45 minutes later... no movement.

Re: Immediate install failure

Are you doing a clean install or an upgrade. Upgrade
installs take a lot longer. Over two hours is not unusual
for an upgrade install.
