DVD burned in Vista won't play on standalone

I'm new so be patient with me. Further, I am very new to Vista. Life
was easier with XP. I've recently got this machine loaded with Vista
and I have tried to burn some video to DVD to play in a standalone
connected to my TV. No matter what I do, the standalone DVD player
reads bad disc. Now I can go burn the same videos on the same type of
discs on XP and there is no problem whatsoever. From what I understand
some people have this problem and some don't. Can anyone help?
