If your Ultimate is a different bit version from your current installation i.e. 64 as opposed to 32 - you have to do a clean install. If it's the same bit version , I believe you can do an upgrade - in that case you could just have bought an upgrade license - should be able to use the dvd as it contains all editions, the product key determines which is installed -check here to make sure : Compare editions: 64-bit editions of Windows Vista. Microsoft Help and Support Hope that helps SIW2 |

I assume you mean you have the original dvd from when you installed the business edition, and an Ultimate license you bought from microsoft online ? If you have two full licenses, ( as opposed to just an upgrade license to Ultimate ) you are entitled to use them on two machines if you wish. SIW2 |

| | Re: Windows Vista Business Upgrade. I'm sorry I should have explained. When I put t he vista disk in the drive to perform the upgrade I put in my Vista Ultimate product key and the upgrade option is not available it is grayed out. Note: they are the same bit version. 32. Try starting up, going into you existing Vista installation, put the dvd in , wait 30 secs or so, it will run. If Autoplay pops up, select run setup - on the Install windows Menu, click Install Now If that doesn't do it, let me know as there is another way. SIW2 Last edited by SIW2; 09-10-2008 at 06:55 PM.. | VISTA HOME PREMIUM X64/ 7 x64 / 7x86 | Re: Windows Vista Business Upgrade. That is the normal way to do it. Do you recall seeing this message? ![]() It is possible to copy Vista dvd onto your hard drive, open the folder, right click the setup.exe , run as admin,. then you should get upgrade option only, or at least I did. ( Put the dvd in , click Computer, right click the dvd drive , click copy, then click and paste on your Primary drive where Vista is installed - usually C - the contents of the dvd will copy in a couple of minutes) Before doing, try starting Windows normally, put in the dvd , open it to view files, right click setup.exe, run as admin and when I did that, again I got only the upgrade option . In either case , this is what it looks like ![]() I assume you have made an external backup of your important documents and any drivers you may need - always wise when attempting any sort of install. ( I have done plenty and never needed to use the backups - but you never know.) SIW2 |
