image problems

not so long ago i had loads of spyware and malware and took me ages to sort it and get rid of it, now i cant change my backround from plane black one and thumbnail views dont work just dont get anything. driving me mad can anyone help please

Just out of curiosity (as I never ever get malware, or run Vista, on my
desktop machines), did you disable UAC?

One good reason to flatten the system and start over. You "may" have removed
all the infections (then again maybe you didn't) but it may be impossible to
repair any damage the malware has caused.
