| | Re: Acronis Anne I can honestly say that I've never had any problem with System Clean Up and I use it on a regular basis, especially prior to backing up my system. Temporary files are simply that 'temporary' the only problem is Windows leaves the files in the temporary folder rather than clearing them out once applications have finished with them. I certainly would say that Acronis System Clean Up is too aggressive. I also use an application called CCleaner (Crap Cleaner) which clears out temporary internet files, recycle bin 'and' temporary files (amongst other things) and that is used 'every' day, so the temporary folder on my machine is cleared by CCleaner just before I close down. Again I've never had any problem using CCleaner. -- -- John Barnett MVP Associate Expert Windows Desktop Experience Web: http://xphelpandsupport.mvps.org Web: http://vistasupport.mvps.org Web: http://www.silversurfer-guide.com The information in this mail/post is supplied "as is". | | Re: Acronis we here are positive enough to offer help in various applications. You cant get better advice than here, since no one has a reason to say "acronis is great" if its not. You cant get that in the acronis support page. Luckily this newsgroup is open as all newsgroups should be, and we *CAN* say vista is crap, and the worse thing that can happen for telling the truth is to have fanboys jumping up and down like monkeys or get the post deleted (from the ms newserver ONLY) to hide the truth of vista, from a white collar cool aid drinking microsoft employee. In the past every time I cleaned up browser cookies by other means, I couldn't log on to my bank's site. Some folks here, including yourself, maybe, seem to think using a registry cleaner is never necessary. Do you agree? In windows 98SE, I used one regularly wuthout any problem. Thanks for the help. anne |

You can choose which you want to keep. The rest will be deleted. DDW -- Reply via this group No email please |

| | Re: Acronis Sadly I'm not an advocate of registry cleaners, personally I think they cause more problems than they actually cure. So my clear advice is - don't use one. As for your Bank details, as DDW has said in his post, below, try looking at the cookie options in CCleaner and the tell CCleaner which cookies it needs to keep. Once your Bank's cookie is on CCleaner's 'cookies to keep' list the cookie will not be deleted. -- -- John Barnett MVP Associate Expert Windows Desktop Experience Web: http://xphelpandsupport.mvps.org Web: http://vistasupport.mvps.org Web: http://www.silversurfer-guide.com The information in this mail/post is supplied "as is". Do you agree? It's not just a matter of not being necessary, it's a matter of danger. Here's my standard post on the subject: Registry cleaning programs are *all* snake oil. Cleaning of the registry isn't needed and is dangerous. Leave the registry alone and don't use any registry cleaner. Despite what many people think, and what vendors of registry cleaning software try to convince you of, having unused registry entries doesn't really hurt you. The risk of a serious problem caused by a registry cleaner erroneously removing an entry you need is far greater than any potential benefit it may have. Quote: > In windows 98SE, I used one regularly wuthout any problem. Consider yourself fortunate. Regardless of what operating system you are using, there's no guarantee that it will cause a problem *every* time. The issue is that it *never* does anything worthwhile, and it always presents a risk that it will cause a problem. -- Ken Blake, Microsoft MVP - Windows Desktop Experience Please Reply to the Newsgroup |
