| | Re: Guide about setting up and mounting a virtual machine Tony, I can't help you with a guide to VPC 2007 because, currently, I haven't got around to preparing one. My website does, however, contain a guide to VMware Workstation. While VPC 2007 is free it isn't as flexible as VMware workstation; you also don't get USB support on VPC 2007. -- -- John Barnett MVP Associate Expert Windows Desktop Experience Web: http://xphelpandsupport.mvps.org Web: http://vistasupport.mvps.org Web: http://www.silversurfer-guide.com The information in this mail/post is supplied "as is". | | Re: Guide about setting up and mounting a virtual machine There isn't much to it - use the wizard in Virtual PC to prepare the new VM (basically you're just deciding how much drive space, memory, etc. to dedicate to it and what its name should be) and from there you install the OS for the new VM the same as you would on a "real" computer. -- Richard G. | Vista Ultimate x64 | Re: Guide about setting up and mounting a virtual machine I use VMware workstation on my ultimate machine for XP and Ubuntu (And OSX on occasion) and they work beautifuly. if you have hardware virtualization, vmware workstation and server support that as well and it makes a BIG difference in VM performance as well. |

| Vista Ultimate 32-bit | Re: Guide about setting up and mounting a virtual machine Have you tried reading the built-in documentation of VPC 2007? It is well written, and VERY complete... But also, I pointed a friend of mine who wanted to install VPC 2007 and a guest WinXP OS on his Vista machine to this page, which is detailed and has a lot of screenshots: Geek to Live: Run Windows XP inside Vista with Virtual PC |

| | I have a lot of USB devices; Re: Guide about setting up and mounting a virtual machine Thanks to all for the advice. I guess the big difference between VMware and VPC is harware support. I have a network scanner / printer (HP6310) that I must use and test. I will be installing Vista and XP Pro on Vista Ultimate and I have a lot uf USB devices. The software I am testing makes extensive use of USB devices like a Plantronics USB CS60 headset and the HP 6310, next to a cardreader, Jabra Bluetooth dongle etc. Kind regards, Tony Thijs "LeeTutor" <guest@xxxxxx-email.com> schreef in bericht news:7186d3df1b2b82491f9ce4e21604e14a@xxxxxx-gateway.com... | | Re: I have a lot of USB devices; Re: Guide about setting up and mounting a virtual machine You are still going to need USB support on the Virtual Machine; without it you won't get it to work. Looks like you will need to take a look at VMware Workstation rather than VPC 2007/VM Server. -- -- John Barnett MVP Associate Expert Windows Desktop Experience Web: http://xphelpandsupport.mvps.org Web: http://vistasupport.mvps.org Web: http://www.silversurfer-guide.com The information in this mail/post is supplied "as is".
