| | Vista Search does not find start menu entries Hi, Vista Search does not find Start Menu entries by typing parts of the name in the search box. For example, if I type "Mail", Vista does not find Windows Mail or Windows Live Mail (both are installed). If I Type "Windows", then Windows Mail is found, but not Windows Live Mail. Other Example: Foto Gallery (I use the German Version "Windows-Fotogalerie") is found by typing "fotog", but not by typing "foto". The strange thing is, that it did work before. On my other Vista computer it's working fine too. I checked the indexing settings to be sure that the start menu is indexed. I already did rebuilding the index. Does anyone experience the same or does anyone has a hint for me? Thanks, Franz |

| | Re: Vista Search does not find start menu entries Strangely enough I have only just been noticing this myself over the last couple weeks and its a pain. I also rebuilt the index and it made it a bit better temporarily, but then same thing happened again. I get the exact same things you mention. Additionally even typing things like "windows live photo gallery" gives me nothing but images as my results. | | Re: Vista Search does not find start menu entries Unfortunately there are at least 7 other places (at a rough count) to configure Search within Vista, in addition to the Start menu settings you mentioned (although that's a good Start if you can excuse the pun). Here's 2 of those to get you started .... Open any folder > Organize > Folder and Search options > Search (eg Partial matches, Natural language searching ... ) Control Panel > Indexing options (eg Has indexing finished? + diacritic settings etc) -- Jon "Franz" <graf.franz@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:84ab1957-3b12-4df0-b7d1-71a8ca948bce@xxxxxx Quote: > Hi, > > Vista Search does not find Start Menu entries by typing parts of the > name in the search box. > > For example, if I type "Mail", Vista does not find Windows Mail or > Windows Live Mail (both are installed). > If I Type "Windows", then Windows Mail is found, but not Windows Live > Mail. > > Other Example: > Foto Gallery (I use the German Version "Windows-Fotogalerie") is found > by typing "fotog", but not by typing "foto". > > The strange thing is, that it did work before. But why would something like "calen" get only the Windows Calendar, "calendar" get nothing and Live Calendar not show up at all?
