program options

We have vista premium & suddenly we get the window that says it cant find
'file definitions' or something like that. Then it says go to 'program
options' to set up a definitions folder. HELP! TIA

You'll probably need to give the exact error message, unless per chance that
jogs someone's memory.

Ok, well are you running a particular program when these error messages
appear?

If so, look in the options for that particular program (often Tools >
Options or Edit > Preferences or something similar via its menus).

In which case it's likely to be one of your startup programs. You can see a
list of these via

Start > msconfig (typed in box) > Startup (tab)
Also in the same place on the Services tab with 'Hide all Microsoft
Services' checked.

It's sounds a little bit like Windows Defender messages (which do use
'Definitions'), but could also easily be other security software etc that
you have installed.

You'd need to provide more information, eg on your startup programs, plus
other programs you have installed, for a more targeted response.
