Hello!, This is my first post in the forum, I've been having a problem since yesterday with my windows vista ultimate x64 just after I installed service pack, as soon as it reboot to continue with the service pack installation it crashes and after a few tries the installation was able to complete the installation but once I'm in windows it doesn't last for a while in about 1 minute keep crashing with the same BSOD I got during the installation of service pack. Yesterday what I did was to uninstall service pack and I got rid of the problem thought it was a failure installation and today I tried again even with the antivirus turned off and again got the same BSOD (during and after installation). I attached the logfile of windbg and in the zip file is the .dmp, and other files that were mentioned.

The mini kernel dump that you provided was the 8th BSOD as of its timestamp - Sept 24 13:13 hours.

The bugcheck from your BSOD was 0x0000003b (0xc0000005, 0x0, 0xfffffa60094cdee0, 0x0) with the probable cause listed as the Microsoft RAS SSTP Miniport Call Manager driver rassstp.sys.

A bugcheck of 0x0000003b = 0x3b = an exception occurred while a system service was performing a function that was moving into kernel code territory. For the exception, we look at the first parameter inside the parenthesis - 0xc00000005 - a memory access violation.

I don't believe for a second that the Microsoft driver named as the probable cause is the culprit here. Since I don't have any system information or specs, the best that I can do right now is to look through the dump file's loaded driver list and try and figure out what may have caused this.

Two modules immediately caught my eye -

000.fcl - which belongs to the x64-troublesome HP QuickPlay and has a timestamp of Tue Aug 29 00:53:56 2006 - 5 months before the public introduction of Vista in Jan 2007. I would like to see this disabled as I have done in x64 Vista systems. Do the following:
START | type regedit into the start search box and hit enter | navigate to the following key -

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\{22D78859-9CE9-4B77-BF18-AC83E81A9263}

Look in the right side of the screen, double-click on the word Start and change the hexadecimal value to the number 4 - then exit regedit. QuickPlay is now disabled.

The other driver that I noticed was NETw4v64.sys, the driver for your Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG with a timestamp of Thu Jun 21 07:56:29 2007. A new version of this driver - v12.0.4.0 came out on August 1, 2008. Here is the Intel site - but you should go to the HP site and get it from there.

I would start with these 2 - boot into SAFEMODE if necessary, then go after the other older drivers. A list of the drivers loaded into RAM at the time of the BSOD sorted in descending chronological order is at the end of this post. In addition, I have attached a copy of the dbug output.

I'm having this same problem although I updated to SP1 many moons ago. This problem has just started for me in the last few days. Where can I find the necessary dump files to post?
I'm using a Pain In The *** 680i chipset which has gone out on me in the past. I am not trusting it at the moment!

I will be glad to take a look at the dump files for you.

They can be found in c:\windows\minidump - get ALL of them regardless of the number. You will have to copy them out to another folder before you will be able to zip them up.

I would also appreciate obtaining an msinfo32 NFO file -
START | type msinfo32 into the start search box and hit enter.

The msinfo32 viewer will appear - allow it to gather system information for a minute or so - then save it in NFO format. You will see the NFO default file extension when you go to save it.

Please zip up the mini kernel dumps and the NFO file and attach it to your next post. I will run them and see what I can find.

Sorry it took me a while to get back to you! I've been putting this off out of frustration... Every time I get into the machine, it BSOD's. It even BSOD'd on me in Safe Mode!
I ran the included memory checker (from Vista) and it said there were problems found but I could not find any further details. I read up on some other posts that folks with a 680i chipset had problems with a quad core and 4 gigs... Again, no real details. I pulled 2 GB of RAM and then was able to get in and get the results you wanted.
Now... Let me see if I can post those two files...
