System restore and hard drive with two partitions

Hi, i have an Acer 8920 laptop which has a 320 Gb HD. In computer this
capacity shows up as 2 drives (c: acer and d:data). When configuring system
restore should i create restore points for both drives or just the drive
with windows on it (C?

Re: System restore and hard drive with two partitions

system restore only restores system files, and program files...

if you just use D as storage of your own personal files (documents, videos,
downloads etc)

then there is no reason why you would want to create restore points there.

I personally have only C, and did the same with XP (that automatically
monitored all drives by the way)

Re: System restore and hard drive with two partitions

Disable monitoring on the second partition.

Re: System restore and hard drive with two partitions

My Toshiba has C: for Vista and D: for Toshiba. I think the D: drive is for
Toshiba firmware. Shouldn't I System Backup it too? I do take image
backups for both drives. I have done System Restores where both logical
drives were restored successfully.

I'm assuming RJ's situation is the same as mine: His C: for Acer firmware
and D: for his OS. Maybe I'm assuming too much and C: is really Vista and D:
is Docs, Pics, etc. Perhaps he can clarify that.

Thanks for the replies. My C: is for Vista and everything else as far as i
can see. The D: partition doesn't seem to get used and i don't know how to
save photos, documents etc to it.

Re: System restore and hard drive with two partitions

The D: partition is almost surely the "recovery" or "restore" partition that
can be used to restore your computer to factory-new state. You should check
your manual, the documentation that came with your computer, or the
manufacturer's web site to confirm this.
