| | Sidebar won't start When I try to start sidebar it says "only for administrator". Under my user name it says "administrator". I already checked "start sidebar" at startup in sidebar properties but it didn't put the icon in the task bar after restart? -- Retired Boeing Bill |

| | Re: Sidebar won't start Have you tried clicking on "Windows Sidebar" in the control panel and clicking on "How do I customize Windows Sidebar?" in the panel? There is a host of FAQs about the sidebar. You can also go to the Windows Sidebar folder in C:\Program Files and take ownership of the folder. right-click on folder, select "properties", click "advanced", click "edit", click the "owner" tab and change the owner to your user name. | | Re: Sidebar won't start Ramesh, Regarding the instructions in the link you gave me; 1.) I don't have a "group Policy Editor", and 2.) in regedit, the entry for "Windows" is missing under policies. | | Re: Sidebar won't start There is no path indicating the two you mention. I have a screen print of what I get when I enter gpedit.msc. There is no indication of configuring the computer. Is there another way to get there? Is there aservice that must be running to get it? -- Retired Boeing Bill "Ramesh Srinivasan, MS-MVP" wrote: Quote: > May I assume that you checked for the Policy setting under both the branches > (HKCU & HKLM)? > > -- > Regards, > > Ramesh Srinivasan, Microsoft MVP [Windows Shell/User] > The Winhelponline Blog http://www.winhelponline.com/blog > > > "Retired Bill" <RetiredBill@xxxxxx> wrote in message > news:4C1BAA28-3E79-470D-9F7B-97CF8ED411B6@xxxxxx Quote: > > Ramesh, > > Regarding the instructions in the link you gave me; 1.) | | Re: Sidebar won't start I meant the Registry Editor. HKCU implies HKEY_CURRENT_USER HKLM implies HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE Note that there is also a REG file attached in the article link, which removes the Sidebar Policy if present. -- Regards, Ramesh Srinivasan, Microsoft MVP [Windows Shell/User] The Winhelponline Blog http://www.winhelponline.com/blog "Ramesh Srinivasan, MS-MVP" <ramesh@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:ed9spPWJJHA.4280@xxxxxx Quote: > May I assume that you checked for the Policy setting under both the > branches (HKCU & HKLM)? > > -- > Regards, > > Ramesh Srinivasan, Microsoft MVP [Windows Shell/User] > The Winhelponline Blog http://www.winhelponline.com/blog > > > "Retired Bill" <RetiredBill@xxxxxx> wrote in message > news:4C1BAA28-3E79-470D-9F7B-97CF8ED411B6@xxxxxx Quote: >> Ramesh, >> Regarding the instructions in the link you gave me; 1.)
