No fix for Epson scanner and Vista

We now have a useless scanner (Epson 1200u) thanks to Vista being
incompatible with it's software. We have no way to print pictures, thanks to
Vista being incompatible with our HP printer/it's graphic software. Thanks
to Vista we will now be forced to either purchase new perifs, waste a lot of
time moving files from the XP machines in the back office or do without.

The last two computers for our office will be ordered from Dell and have XP
installed.

Or try Linux. Epson has good support for Linux.

What you describe is very often (but not always) the situation.

But I'd like to point out that this has *nothing* to do with Vista in
particular. It has to do with having older peripheral devices and
switching to any new operating system.

Writing drivers for a new operating system is the responsibility of
the manufacturer of the peripheral device. The manufacturer has to
decide whether it's in his financial interest to do so. If the device
is a relative new one, his decision is usually to write the new
drivers because doing so helps him sell more of those devices. If the
device is older, it hardly ever helps him to write drivers for a new
operating system and he hardly ever does.

By the way, anyone contemplating changing to a new operating system
should always check in advance whether drivers exist for all the
devices he owns. It's a normal part of deciding whether it makes sense
for you to upgrade operating systems. It looks like you neglected to
do that in advance.

Your choice, of course.

Fudge linux.
It's at < 1 % install base for a reason.

Download and try the updated Smart Panel 3.5. it worked with my Epson 1260
scanner--Cost of non-trial version was $9.95 and well worth it as it saved
me from replacing my scanner.

That's great but we are talking about the major compatibility problems
existing for so long.

One can cry out loud and flame all people who are not using a newer OS as
being a hater and basher of the company, or one could try to solve the cause
of the problem.

I was hoping the later one to read the message but not the former one.

No...YOU are talking about major compatability problems.
The thread pertained to a single Epson model.

The cause of his problem is SOLVED.
Whether or not the OP chooses to implement it seems to be predetermined as
not wanting to.
It is the hardware manufacturers job to write drivers !
If the OP or yourself really want progress, contact the manufacturer of the
incompatible hardware in question.

You are living in the past, and the most interesting thing is, you are proud
of it.
