Update Error Code 800B0100

Hi,

I have an update error which seems to be common in Vista, including my
Home Premium. When attempting to download Vista Updates, most of them
are not successful, with an error code 800B0100 appearing on the screen.
Based on searching the net including Microsoft, I have tried various
recommended remedies, none of which works: cmd, run as administrator;
firewall off, antivirus off, etc.. I have not found a solution, nor am I
alone in this quandry. Some have advised me to install XP and delete
Vista Home Premium, but this code error seems to occur in XP also. My
Vista was factory installed, so I have no DVD for
re-installation.Microsoft is reported to have refused to help many
people about this error.

Has anyone found a solution to this problem?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Morton

HUH ??? What does this have to do with the OP's issue

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/956702

It's based on COM DLL registration issues, which might apply to Vista as
well, in case the Vista tool doesn't resolve the issues. Run as
Administrator with full admin rights to see if that gets things corrected
when doing an update..

Hi to TauArian and to the other people who answered my query:

I fear that I've been led into a classic Catch-22 situation. I can't get
Vista Updates due to the 800B0100 error. The suggestion to download the
System Update Readiness Tool involves finding it on the list of
available downloads, but I cannot download any updates in the first
place! In addition, a suggested method for manually downloading that
Tool did not work, as the hourglass icon hung up for more than 15
minutes while the tool bar said transferring from c.microsoft.com.
So, I'm still so frustrated.

I'll try some of your other suggestions, and just hope that something
works.

Thanks again,

Morton

Hi Peter,

I'm supposed to download that tool to fix my problem, but getting the
tool is done via Vista Updates, (as per tool instructions), and I CANNOT
get updates in the first place. Is that tool available on a CD? I would
gladly pay for it, if it would help me.

Thanks again for your response.

It is not done through Windows Update. Here is the Direct link for that download for Vista x86 systems

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en

Let us know how you made out. Make sure you take a note where it will download to on your C:\

Hi Peter,

Thanks for your nice reply. I had already tried that link, without
success. I just tried it again, and again no success. What happens is
that the hourglass icon appears next to the pointer arrow, and the left
lower toolbar says, "transferring data from c.microsoft.com." This
continues for 15 minutes, at which point I again gave up.(The green bar
at the right lower fills to almost full.) If I click on "download" with
the hourglass icon showing, then I get a partial aborted download.

I am stymied, frustrated, and otherwise unhappy that there does not
appear to be a fix for this that works.

Thanks again.

But the poster will not login with the hidden built-in Administrator account
that has full admin rights that could address those Windows updates that are
not able to install.

And the poster will not do a System File Check to see if that may correct
any problems.
