| Guest | Some Web Pages do not open if www included! Has anyone run into this - a website will only work if I *do not *type the 'www' in the address bar! And if so do you know why this happens and is there a way to resolve it. I have Vista64 and from day 1 I ran into this problem. I contacted a few companies and they ensured me the websites were up so I started to look into my own computer. All I figured out was to remove the www and I have access to the sites. However, some of these business sites have login sections and on a number of them it redirects me back to the 'www' path to gain access and I can't get in. It certainly appears to be something on my side but I have no clue as to how to change this, or even where to start. Any help appreciated. | Guest | Re: Some Web Pages do not open if www included! If it is something on the web server side would we not expect this problem to be reported by many users who have run into the same problem? I have searched the web several times and was unsuccsesful finding any reference to this problem, and this is why I expected it to be something on my side. Especially since I have 3 other systems running XP and this is not an issue. Anyone have any thoughts? -- NavCopy ------------------------------------------------------------------------ NavCopy's Profile: http://winvistaclub.com/forum/member.php?userid=570 View this thread: http://winvistaclub.com/forum/showthread.php?t=23736 |

interface level. I didn't detect any difference in the content it sent whether I used the www or not. Generally, the www.server.dom vs. server.dom is handled through DNS settings (theirs, not yours). You might want to check in nslookup to see if you can lookup both names.

You might want to check in nslookup to see if you can lookup both names. I'm not sure if I did it correct but when I run nslookup with/without 'www' I get the same address so it looks like it works. But I do not know if it is done correct as this is all new to me. All I did was enter the web address after nslookup, is this correct? (Domain Name System, which translates names like www.microsoft.com to a numeric IP address). Some register only with the www prefix, some both with and without it, some only without it. It doesn't mean that anything on your machine is malfunctioning. And please don't put an important part of your question only in the subject. Make sure the entire thing is in the body of the message. -- Tim Slattery MS MVP(Shell/User) Slattery_T@xxxxxx http://members.cox.net/slatteryt

Tim: I understand what you are saying about web sites and how they are setup on the server side, however I must be missing something as I do not see how it applies to my situation. I have no less than 20 website that I can not access on Vista yet I can on my 3 XP boxes, so I am looking at it as something Vista or my Vista machine that is making this happen. If the situation was entirely server side than many people would have the same problem.
