Stopping W/MediaPlayer .....

Can someone please tell me how to STOP WindowsMediaPlayer and it's related
crap from starting at startup? I don't use it and it eats up RAM. I can't
see it in msconfig so where do I go to STOP it from loading? The
frustration doesn't end and there are no help files with Vista telling
people how to get rid of stuff they don't want or how to STOP it from using
resources when it's not used or wanted.


Also, what is MS Feeds Synchronizations and why is it accessing the net
constantly?

on the computer. There is no way WMP should be starting at start-up, unless
that install person did it, just like you have an auto login that should

If you have a whole lot of issues with Vista, and you do seem to be having a
whole lot of issues, then you need to format the HD and take the Recover
DVD(s), if you got them from the computer manufacturer or you created them
as the very first thing you should have done when you got the computer with
Vista pre-installed, and you should reinstall the O/S.

Of course, you would have to go back to the computer manufacture's Web site
to download drivers and other software that pertains to the make and model
of the O/S and install them too.

An install can go wrong and can be jacked-up.

Why? How will that fix anything? It's the same OS that's installed on the
PC with the same preinstalled stuff from HP. WMP is a MS product, not a HP
product.
A reformat wont fix the aggravation with the UAs. I turned that off. It
wont add an ad-blocker to IE7. The PC is new and shouldn't already need
drivers.

It's possible to disable WMP from startup:

1.Start>>Search>>Services.msc,stop and disable service Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service
2.Go to Control Panel>>Internet Options and see figure:

3.Go to HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run and remove value wmpnscfg from this key

I have the same problem. Even though I have disabled the service, wmpnscfg.exe still runs when ever it wants to. Any advice on stopping this file from running would be greatly appreciated!

Have you already done point 2 and 3 from post 5?Maybe you have Ad-Adware Pro or Spybot Search & Destroy installed?If you have anyone of them close their proactive Monitor (AdWatch,TeaTimer) in taskbar and repeat all things from post 5+restart

I have Norton 360 running. I have also used HijackThis to check for any spy/ad or malware. I reformatted my hard drive in July and its been there every since. The service is not showing in my start up items. It typically starts itself about 30-45 seconds after booting up. I'm sure its not hurting anything (except sucking 1,300 K of RAM). I just want to know why it seems to have a mind of its own!
