Re: Stopping W/MediaPlayer .....

Try this:

1.Disable service UPnP Device Host
2.Navigate to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\Preferences\HME

create DWORD phrase DisableDiscovery and set the value to 2
+
restart

Re: Stopping W/MediaPlayer .....

Under the HME folder is another folder titled: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\Preferences\HME\S-1-5-21-1735718056-2214544177-2514508359-1000, Then a DWORD key named "AcceptedPrivacyStatement" with a value of "1"

I'm adding "DisableDiscovery" under that key. I'll see what happens...

TeaTimer asks if you want to allow the change. It doesn't blindly and
silently prevent the change.

And how do those of us not familiar with working in the registry to stop it
from starting short of uninstalling it from our PCs?

We don't. We hope you get in there and screw things up so badly that
you can't use your computer and VOILA: we're done with you.

What are your options specified under WMP's Tools:Options:Library:Media
Sharing menu option?

Do you really think I know everything?Nobody know that sometimes only disabling WMP add-ones no help.Adding to registry DisableDiscovery is stronger.

Re: Stopping W/MediaPlayer .....

Sorry for taking so long to get back to you! Yesterday's Vista Update FUBAR'ed my system (some message saying the update didn't apply to my OS???). Anyway, got that straightened out and MIRACULOUSLY the possession of my wmpnetwk has ceased. I have no idea how or what fixed it?! Of course its developed another possession which seems uncontrollable by normal humans.

But that is for another section of this forum.

Flavius - Thanks for your help!
