| | Vista x64 Installation Hangs on green/blue Vista themed screen I have recently put together a new machine. --------------------------------------------- Asus P5e3 Premium Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 OCZ DDR3 PC3-10666 1333MHz 2 X 2GB OCZ GameXStream 850W PSU Western Digital Caviar Black 750GB SATAII ---------------------------------------------- I installed Windows XP Pro x64 Edition, but I want to upgrade to Vista Ultimate x64 Edition. However, after I boot from the installation disc, windows setup starts, loads system files, then hangs on this green/blue vista themed screen. The computer is not frozen, as I can still move the mouse around, but nothing happens. I've left it like that for up to about a half hour once, and still nothing happened. Is there something wrong with my hardware? Any known issues with my hardware setup in terms of installing Vista x64? I only have XP Home/Pro x32, Pro x64 and Vista Ultimate x64, no Vista x32 to work with, but really I want Vista x64, for more RAM and DirectX 10. Other attempts: I've tried disabling Legacy USB in the BIOS, as well as removing one stick of 2GB ram (leaving one 2GB stick), but the outcome has been the same. Any suggestions would be much appreciated, thanks for your help! |

| | Re: Vista x64 Installation Hangs on green/blue Vista themed screen In order to perform an upgrade, you must first boot into Windows XP, then insert the Vista upgrade DVD disc in the DVD drive. One does not begin an upgrade by booting directly from the Vista upgrade DVD disc. -- Carey Frisch Microsoft MVP Windows Desktop Experience --------------------------------------------------------------------- "slim16" <slim16@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:7A114FEF-0A90-4E78-A4CA-032624C80223@xxxxxx I have recently put together a new machine. --------------------------------------------- Asus P5e3 Premium Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 OCZ DDR3 PC3-10666 1333MHz 2 X 2GB OCZ GameXStream 850W PSU Western Digital Caviar Black 750GB SATAII ---------------------------------------------- I installed Windows XP Pro x64 Edition, but I want to upgrade to Vista Ultimate x64 Edition.
