| | Vista Home premium - Failure to boot Gateway DX4710, Home Premium 64-bit, 6Gb ram. Plugged in an Ion external drive, system grenaded. Unplugged drive and now cannot boot system. Get to the Gateway splash screen, Intel logo lower left, Boot Menu <F10> and BIOS setting <F2> on lower right. Neither will respond. Rebooted pressing <F8>, per Gateway manual, and no response. Unplugged everything except monitor, keyboard and mouse. Still not responding. Suggestions? |

Contact Gateway for repair/replacement if under warranty. If not under warranty, you may want to try hardware troubleshooting it yourself or take the machine to a local computer professional. | | Re: Vista Home premium - Failure to boot I am a cheap SOB so I went through pretty basic stuff. Removed and reinstalled the hard drive; reseated the RAM; reseated all connections. Somewhere in there, something changed. Machine is functional again. Thanks for the tip.
