Windows Installer Problem

Running Vista Ultimate x 64 and this past two days each time I power up, Windows starts OK then starts a series of messages about Windows Installer.

The messages are

Please wait while windows configures Destinations....

Please wait while windows configures Tray-App

Please wait while windows configures Status

These 3 messages keep flashing on for more than 5 minutes then dissappear

Then when I try to close down Windows I get a message saying that a program called Status is stopping my system from closing down due to a problem with Windows Installer.

Can anyone help?

Regards

JJF1312

Re: Windows Installer Problem

Hi

Thanks for the information, but had already tried that possible fix.

Have now sorted the problem...... it seems that when I tried to install software & drivers for my HP 7310 printer I had UAC turned on and although no error messages appeared during the installation it did not work.

I uninstalled the HP software and then turned off UAC reinstalled the software and hey presto all is now OK.

It also became apparent that another problem I was having with PREVX2 was because of the same UAC setting, have now opted to leave UAC OFF.

This the same problem I have had with my new HP 6380 allinone.
What is the UAC and how can I find it to trun off.

Re: Windows Installer Problem

Hi Rob H,

Sorry that you appear to be having the same problems.

In order to turn off UAC ( user account control) go into your control panel and find the icon for SECURITY CENTRE this will bring up the instructions on how to turn off UAC.

I now leave it off as it caused numerous problems whilst turned on.

Be sure to proceed in the following order.

1. uninstall your hp software.

2. REBOOT your system

2. carry out the turn off procedure in security centre.

3. REBOOT your system.

4. Install the hp software.

Best of luck, hope all goes well for you.

Re: Windows Installer Problem

Many thanks for your reply JJF1312,
I have uninstalled all the HP software before I went to work and rebooted twice. The lovely messages have all stopped. A nice warm feeling.

I'm going to do a RESTORE point first.

By turning off the UAC control, does it cause any other problems as the administrator or you just do not get all those permission requests when installing and uninstalling software. I keep only one account on the computer.

Cheers

Re: Windows Installer Problem

Hi Rob H,

Glad all is OK at the moment.
To answer your question about UAC, it does not cause any other problems on the system and you will not be asked all those stupid permission questions.

Go ahead and try it ( it's very safe )

Load up your HP software and then if you prefer turn it back on AFTER installing your software.

Just remember to turn it OFF again before you install any new software/programs.

Good Luck

Hello JJF1312,
I installed the software and got the same problem so I then turned off the UAC and rebooted and all seems to be fine now.
Weird
Thank you for your help, much appreciated
