Hello Vista community! Just joined the other day.

On to my question: I switched from XP to Vista (first 32 bit, then 64 bit). I have a lot of jpg photos that I transferred when I upgraded (clean install of Vista). Upon transferring them, some of my photos looked distorted and had lines in them. I have uploaded a few examples of what I am talking about. I am not sure why this happened. It shows in the thumbnail, image preview, and in Google Picasa2. When the thumbnails are loading, they look fine and then they all start to distort right in front of my eyes. What can be causing this and is there a way to fix it so all my photos are not distorted? The pictures are below. Thanks to anyone who may be able to shed some light on this!

The files must have gotten corrupted in the transfer (assuming of course
you've confirmed that the originals
are good)

If you transferred the files on a cd or DVD, reburn it

Could it be a compatibility issue between Vista and your video card?

Thanks for the suggestions guys! barman58, I tried infranview to no avail. It displays them distorted as well. Picasa2 shows the images as distorted just like the thumbnails. I will try transferring them to my Ubuntu laptop machine and see if they are still distorted there.

Barman, I agree that it could be a corruption. I was just sorting through my pictures in Picasa2 and there was one folder that was fine... no corruption. UNTIL I moused over the picture and it started to turn colors and become distorted. This makes me think now that it is a reading problem. Some are totally covered in a transparent solid color like red or green as well.

I will keep you informed!

Little update here... the pictures are distorted for good. I transferred them to my laptop running Ubuntu and the all displayed the same. I was able to save some of them by cropping out the distortion but most of them are long gone. I found backup copies on my external drive so I am going to transfer them to my Ubuntu machine and re-save them in an effort to correct the problem before it happens again. New pictures I have taken with my Nikon are fine... and some old pics are fine. I will keep you all updated on my findings between exams

Amd64x2, I have the exact same problem!
