Recently no matter what program or browser I'm in, when I touch a button with
the mouse and remove my finger nothing happens.
Then I move the mouse OFF the button I tapped, and the function happens.
Or maybe someone knows how to restore the mouse to working the original way.
FWIW: It's an HP optical that's been working fine for 2 years.
I've been suspecting the installation of the WD terabyte external drive caused
all the problems.
There was BSOD's almost always, [not responding] without the [not responding]
text is still happening. I added a Geforce 6500 with 1 gig ram just weeks
earlier. Freeing up all the memory stolen by the onboard graphics board. ie:
the system rating jumped from 2.1 for graphics to 4.x as the best change.
But removing the drives USB, and power connection had zero effect.
I don't really understand the relation between installing the WD terabyte, and
it's recommendation in some of the BSOD's to update my Maxtor one touch 300 gig
external. But I did, and this had zero effect on the BSOD's. One BSOD claimed
it was a graphics card problem. I'd just updated the device also. I rolled back
the graphics driver
, and the machine went from multi tasking to single tasking.
So I went back and uninstalled all the external drive software other than drivers
, reinstalled the current video driver and went to booting using the
diagnostic/selective option with no startups.
That fixed the BSOD's and the majority of the other problems that occurred
after installing the WD drive. I now have both external drives on, the graphics
card up to date, and 90% of the startups off. And the only problem still
remaining is this sticky mouse button.
I can't figure out which of the 3 BSOD's caused this flaky mouse action.
