Easy Transfer - serious(!) problem with importing newsgroup messages

Fresh install of 5728, ~25 GB free on the partition it is installed
on, enough "horsepower" (Core Duo-CPU, 1.5 GB RAM).

I start Easy Transfer under XP, let it collect my mail and mews,
so that - in theory - I wouldn't have to re-subscribe to ~80 news-
groups - and yes, I actually read some of them :-)

I then start ET under Vista, point it to the proper file, the import
process begins and takes, almost literally, for ever. I can count
almost every other message that gets imported, it's really not much
faster as if I were to download the damn postings again.

After more than two (!!) hours and still less than 10% or so done,
I had to stop this disaster since it became obvios that it would take
longer than the first manned mission to Mars.

I'm going to report this as a bug as soon as I have figured what
AV-software will work THIS TIME, since AVG doesn't work
anymore. I have to admit, that's pretty disenchanting, considering
how close RTM is.
