Performance Index crashes PC during Vista RC1 installation

Has anyone else seen this problem?

Towards the end of Vista 5728 install, the Performance Index test runs.
The text "Please wait while Windows checks your computers performance" is
displayed at bottom of screen.
When progress bar reaches the "W" of Windows, video screen goes blank & all
hard-drive activity stops.
PC has to be power cycled to recover.
Once PC is running, the install process restarts again, but the Index
routine is by-passed.
Once the desktop has appeared, if I then try to run the Index test manually,
it gets to "Assessing Windows Media Playback" and crashes as before.
I assume it's the same problem as during installation Index test failure.

This has worked on the CPP and Pre-RC1 builds (Index value of 3+
calculated), but failed on RC1 (5600) in exactly the same way.

Motherboard...Gigabyte GA-8S648
CPU...2.8GHz
Memory...1GB
Video....Nvidia GeForce 6800 GS/XT
Hard drive....60GB IDE (have tried two different drives, one brand new out
of the wrapper)

RE: Performance Index crashes PC during Vista RC1 installation

I have the exactly the same problem with my Aopen 6600GT video card.
I changed it with an old ATI 9600tx and that one passed the test (but no
aero) so the conclusion is that there is something wrong with the nvidia
driver fot build 5728.
I hope that they will fix this problem.

Re: Performance Index crashes PC during Vista RC1 installation

Thanks for that.
I've changed the hard drive, but not tried anything else.
I'll drop in a different video card, and see how that performs.
Cheers,

RE: Performance Index crashes PC during Vista RC1 installation

I found out what causes the crash and how to solve the problem. I had exactly
the same problem with my nvidia 6600gt . I did not have the problem with my
ati 9600 tx (but no aero either). It's caused by the AGP bridge driver.

Change the AGP driver in the device manager under system. Use the old XP
driver and then rerun the performance test. It won't crash no more and the
videocard functions normally (with aero).

Success.
