URGENT BUG - Vista Logon

PLEASE PLEASE will you remove the dated Windows XP Logon sound from Vista it
plays just before it displays the logon screen and you cannot change it in
Windows Sounds.

Microsoft please note: This sound is kind of out dated now and people have
heard it every time they logon windows xp since late 2000. So thats 6 years
using my pc every day i will leave you to do the maths of how many times i
have heard this sound effect. If people start Vista your new operating
system only to be greeted with stuff we have had for 6 years already it's
not gonna go down well.

Please just change it.

Thankyou

Use the Feedback icon on Vista's desktop if you want MS to know how you
feel. Posting such opinions in this NG will do nothing to further your
cause.

Re: URGENT BUG - Vista Logon

I agree. But according to me, the startup and logon sounds need to be
removed completely. My laptop's buttons work only after logon, and I've so
often disturbed my class when my PC turns on and that idiotic logon sound
plays. That's one of the first settings I disable in Windows XP.

It's even worse now- The sound plays before logon and while logging on too!
They should have included a setting in the OS setup itself, IMO.

If you'd been paying attention you would know they've already removed it
from the RTM build line (57xx).

Re: URGENT BUG - Vista Logon

How does it behave now? Not everyone has downloaded 5728. Why are you so
acerbic?

Re: URGENT BUG - Vista Logon

"RTM build line (57xx)"
that's a bit optimistic indeed

You were unaware that the RC line and the RTM line were being developed in
parallel? Do you understand that there will be no RC2, right? The 5728
update was released so MS could get feedback on some final tweaking, such
as enabling the startup sound to be disabled.

Well, I guess it's just too much of a bother to replace the logon sound with
something of your own creation. I suspect I would rather hear some sexy
female voice saying something like, "Your desktop is almost prepared, sir."

LOL, that is just to make users feel like they are safe and at home with
Microsoft products. IMO, Microsoft needs a solution that will address
98SE users concerns about having true product compatibility with old
Windows 3.1 and DOS software like Space that will run in 98SE but not XP
Pro. and I am so positive it will not run in Vista that I will not even
bother trying to install it -- Space is an educational program for
Windows 3.1 and later versions -- in this case the later version only
goes up to 98SE -- grin

Microsoft needs a Classics Windows version to appeal to 98SE users that
will run on older and newer machines and not take away from Vista
because its goal is to keep users of older software like me -- happy and
content with a Microsoft provided solution -- that anyone can happily
buy at the store --- 98(98SE which has USB 2.0 via third party support
so it is greatly superior in my opinion) that still represent around 3%
of the global market compared to about 6% of the global market for 2000
and 75%+ of the global market share for XP

If Microsoft can really and truly start representing Classic users and
Current Users then Microsoft will probably increase their market share
to 99% -- <smile -- this can be somewhat scary I guess> -- they will
enjoy more goodwill from users and can truly not worry about their
products being compatible with older operating systems -- I envision a
Microsoft representative saying -- Yes Sir or Madam as the case may be
-- your concerns are addressed nicely by our Classic operating system
that will support all your early software well on a modern machine but
if you want all the bells and whistles then what you really want is
Windows Vista --- grin -- it could happen

Microsoft "does" look at the bug reports and feedback reports.

This obnoxious behavior can be controlled in build 5728. Just deselect the
option (remove the check from the box) in the sounds menu.
