    Error Stop 0x0000008E

I have Windows Vista that's worked fine till the last couple of weeks when
different errors began. Stop 0x00000077... and more recently Stop
0x0000008E. I am a beginner with this stuff, what I've read talks about BIOS
updates, disabling BIOS (I do not know what that is). We uploaded the new
AVG Free 8.0 (we had problems getting it to load but it finally did) and I
wonder if that is causing the problem. Any ideas?

No need to post twice in just a few minutes. You have to give people time to
    read and answer.

I would start by uninstalling AVG 8, which has been problematic in many
cases. A better free alternative is Avast. If that solves your problems,
    great.

If not, since you are getting different Stop Errors I'd do some hardware
troubleshooting. This doesn't mean messing with the BIOS. Stay out of
    there.

Standard disclaimer: I can't see and test your computer myself, so these are
    just suggestions based on many years of being a professional computer tech;
suggestions based on what you've written. You should not take my
suggestions as a definitive diagnosis. Testing hardware failures often
involves swapping out suspected parts with known-good parts. If you can't
do the testing yourself and/or are uncomfortable opening your computer,
take the machine to a professional computer repair shop (not your local
equivalent of BigComputerStore/GeekSquad). If possible, have all your data
backed up before you take the machine into a shop.

The AVG removal did not work, it is still erroring out. Now we get a window
that says: Error C:\windows\system32: access is denied.

I intended on making only one post but my system errored when I hit submit
so I didn't think the first one took. To my surprise after I entered the 2nd
one, I saw the first one there.

    I appreciate your advice.

Time to start hardware troubleshooting. Start with the RAM and then the hard
    drive.
