Error code 80073712 for Windows Update try

Have any of you out there had trouble with this error code popping up with
you try to check for Windows updates? Every time I try it I get this error
code. No matter what Microsoft suggests nothing works. Have any of you whose
had this problem been able to solve it? Do you think that a complete system
cleanup and reload/install is the only way to cure this problem or is it a
bug in Vista? Thanks for your help.

Re: Error code 80073712 for Windows Update try

I've got the same error in trying to install the Service Pack 1 update. Unfortunately I may have made the problem worse. I rather foolishly downloaded a program called RegCure that was supposed to rewrite the register files that supposedly were corrupt. It didn't work and I can't get any response from the company that provided it.

A pox on MicroSoft for even selling Vista. I sure hope we can replace it soon. I've never had so many crashes of my computer, windows, or the internet browser with any other OS.
