| | Emacs Zip File Crashing Vista Explorer Hi! I have a new computer with Windows Vista. I wanted to install Emacs from http://ftp.gnu.org/pub/gnu/emacs/win...3-bin-i386.zip and was surprised to find that trying to extract the files of this (rather large) zip file reliably crashes Windows Explorer. I tried to report the bug to Microsoft Support but unfortunately they won't accept any bug reports because I have only an OEM license. (Or if they do accept bug reports, I couldn't find out how to submit them). If it isn't just my machine that's broken somehow, there could be a security hole... | | Re: Emacs Zip File Crashing Vista Explorer Did you run the "Check for Solutions" option? Both of those are the same bucket (223052456) and they're already mapped to a resolution. (Read: uninstall what's causing this.) Does that resolution show up for you? I'll give you a hint: it's not a coincidence that I guessed that AVG was on the system. =) -- Speaking for myself only. Does Vista's unzip code somehow hook into AVG whereas WinRAR's doesn't? Whatever. If the problem is that common, I suppose AVG already knows about it. So I guess am going to keep AVG for the time being :-) Thank you for your help, anyway! Regards, -- Nils Gösche "Don't ask for whom the <CTRL-G> tolls." |

It said `avgrsx' process was using 100% CPU until I disabled Resident Shield. Then I was able to extract from the .tar archive. -- Allan |
