| | Extra, now Missing "My Documents" Folder was trying out my new Microsoft ARC mouse when i was in the process of moving stuff to/from the My Documents folder. i guess the first problem occurred when the mouse decided to copy the My Document directory (and everything in it) and place it in itself as another 20GB directory after accidentally dragging it into the folder! now here's what happened... 1. i had 2 copies of the My Documents folder - the one recognized/linked to the Start menu, and my accidental copy, which is now inside the OS-recognized one. 2. i restarted after uninstalling some games, cause their saved games were no longer linked to the right folder path now, upon restart, it ended up making yet ANOTHER My Documents folder. now i had 3 to deal with...it went ahead and created a fresh one for me to use...how nice ![]() 3. I tried to delete the first copy i made (the accidental one), and it looked like it worked fine, so i did a restart again to make sure it wasnt gonna come back. 4. upon this restart, all 3 My Documents folders were gone, with the start menu link and the link icon in my "Links" folder are no longer working. i dont have any restore points except the one it just made, which obviously wont help me at all. i havent tried using the disk, cause the repair options only do the startup or use the restore points. also, because it cannot currently find the folder in question, i have to force shut down, for the shutdown process takes alot longer now. |

| | RE: Extra, now Missing "My Documents" Folder i have made a temporary folder, but the start menu shortcut still won't let me alter its properties to link to my new "temporary" folder. right now looking for info on recovery and possible shortcut editing to one that can't seem to be reset or tweaked. IF the OP has a registry problem, CCleaner would almost clean any unwanted entries. That, of course, is assuming that the problem might be in his registry. It's purely a guess but why not try anyway? After all CCleaner is free. Steve |

It's purely a guess but why not try anyway? After all CCleaner >is free. Run CCleaner's "registry cleaner" function and see how many items it gives you to remove. Leave them be and don't remove. Then download the baddest registry cleaner you can find, and run IT. See how many entries you get. CCleaner doesn't do scat in "cleaning". It merely finds very safe stuff and very little of that. Bottom line: I don't know what will help the OP's problem (other than taking the mouse and keyboard away) but I do know CCleaner won't help a bit. Richie Hardwick |

| | Re: Extra, now Missing "My Documents" Folder i actually use CCleaner myself. i like that program very much! so far the Documents folder i have made is working fine, and vista hasnt created any extras lately, so far okay on a basic fix. i am wondering how games are going to treat my "currently new" folder, like EA games, cause most of their save game files go in there. do you think it will just happily put them files in there? |
