Slow file transfers?

I have a home network built around an SMC Gigabit switch. I have two VISTA
machines on the network. When I copy a "huge" .vob file Explorer says it is
transfering at a rate of 80-95 MB and that makes sense because it does it
very quickly. However, when I backup/move a whole bunch of Folders and
Files, some big and some small, Explorer says it is transfering at a rate of
2-5 MB and that too makes sense since it takes forever! I have tried
disabling the Avast virus protection software on both systems but it had no
effect. Any ideas on what
is causing the drastic difference?

Re: Slow file transfers?

I have the same problem...very annoying, when I move many files I
sometimes get transfer rates below 1mbps...this does not happen with
xp machines on the same network.

This has been a 'feature' of Vista since day one.... most annoying...
Doesn't look like MS is going to fix this soon. ;-)

Re: Slow file transfers?

I keep trying to like VISTA, but its getting tougher. I just wanted to
verify that other people had the same issue. I guess MSFT wants to make
sure people will buy the next version of Windows so they can get back to XP
performance?
