left shift key launches calculator --- help

Somehow whenever I press the left shift key, it opens calculator everytime.
If I press the right shift key, then the windows search app opens. Any idea
how I got into this situation? Rebooting doesn't help. I have a labtec
wireless keyboard and mouse if that matters. The keyboard does have buttons
on it to also open calculator and search.

Re: left shift key launches calculator --- help

Hello Phil,

It sounds like you may have Sticky Keys turned on. This tutorial will help show you how to check and turn this off if this is the case.

Sticky Keys

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Re: left shift key launches calculator --- help

thanks Shawn,

Sticky keys are off. I also tried turning them on and off again. Not sure
what that would have to do with calculator getting launched though?

Re: left shift key launches calculator --- help

Phil,

You might also check you "keyboard" key settings in the Control Panel (Classic Mode) to see if you can change or disable this shift key option.

Re: left shift key launches calculator --- help

Phil,

I must admit that I do not know what else it may be from.

Sorry,
Shawn

Re: left shift key launches calculator --- help

Does this still happen if you replace your keyboard with another one?

Re: left shift key launches calculator --- help

I am sure this keyboard had to be peered to the system, try uninstalling and
remove the Dongle and reinstall again. Also, try installing the latest
updates for the keyboard to see if it resolves any issues.

RE: left shift key launches calculator --- help

Phil

I always sound like a broken record with this one, but frequently problems
like this are cured if you use System Restore, choosing a date prior to the
date when you first observed this problem.

But before you start, please disable any setting in any antivirus program,
such as Norton, whereby such program seeks to protect itself against an
outside attacker. If you don’t take this step, you may find that System
Restore fails to work properly.
