Memory display on Vista 64 bit PC

I have just bought a 64 bit PC running the 64 Bit version of Vista with 4gig
of RAM.
In the task manager there shows under Physicial Memory(MB)
Total 3325
Cached 2440
Free 10

Can someone with superior knowledge please explain these figures to me? What
happened to the remainder of the 4 gig?

Thanks

Patrick

There is probably a setting in your BIOS to move the "reserved" memory area
higher up in the address space. If there is no such setting, then you
don't have a true 64 bit PC. You should return it and complain LOUDLY.

3325 sure sounds like you're actually running 32-bit Vista. How do you
know you're running the 64-bit version? Right-click "Computer" and
choose "Properties." What does it say there under "System Type"?

OK, then happily for you, my guess was wrong. Sorry that I don't have
any other suggestions for you.

Re: Memory display on Vista 64 bit PC

No problem. I have e-mailed the manufacturer to see what they say. In the
real world I find that most people have no idea about Vista or its inner
workings and 64 bit is also a mystery to most people. It's good that people
such as yourself take an interest.

Thanks
Patrick

Re: Memory display on Vista 64 bit PC

Does the computer have an onboard video card sharing memory with the system?

Hi Patrick,

I just checked my 32 bit Vista Ultimate Desktop and got:

Total 3581
Cached 2348
Free 22

Then I checked my 64 bit Vista Ultimate Laptop and got:

Total 4094
Cached 3136
Free 118

No knowledge here, this is just FYI.
